Elche (in Spanish) or Elx (in Catalan) is a city in the Alicante province in Valencia, Spain, near the city of Alicante. The population of the municipality was 207,163 in 2003. The official languages of the city are Castilian and Valencian.

The stone bust named Lady of Elche (Dama de Elche) was found there. It's supposed to date from the Iberian period. The originale can be found in Madrid's Museo Arqueologico Nacional, and a copy is in the city

The city's main industry is the footwear manufacturing with over 1000 shoe factories

The city has the largest palm tree forests in Europe.

On December 22, 1999, Elche won the Spanish National Lottery El Gordo, the world record largest lottery win by a town, winning 263 million USD.
