In theoretical physics, the electromagnetic potential is a physical quantity that unifies the electric potential and the vector potential (see also magnetic potential) into a single quantity <math>A_\mu<math> with four components (four is the dimension of the spacetime). Such a unification is natural according to special relativity. The electromagnetic potential becomes a set of operators in quantum field theory (namely quantum electrodynamics). The vector potential is a 1-form whose exterior derivative is the faraday 2-form. It is also a U(1) connection form.
