Emery Worldwide - Definition

Emery Worldwide was a cargo airline that was one of the main carriers in the cargo airlines world.

Emery started in 1946 and was the first freight forwarder to receive a carrier certificate from the US Government. For 40 years, Emery was the nations largest freight forwarder/integrated air carrier.

Emery's purchase of Purolator Courier in 1989 ultimately led to their downfall and subsequent takeover by CF.

Emery had its planes grounded on August 13, 2001 due to poor aircraft fleet maintenance, and a crash involving a DC8-71F in Southern California. Emery has since ceased operating and has no plan of resuming operations. All of Emery's cargo operations have been subcontracted to other airlines.

Emery's successor company has agreed to be acquired by UPS.

At the time of their closing, Emery used Boeing 727 and McDonnell Douglas DC-8 equipment to transport freight.
