Emotional Design is both the title of a book by Don Norman and of the concept it represents. The main issues is that emotions have a crucial role the human hability to understand the world, and how they learn new things. Pretty objects, do not only look better but also work better: whenever someones uses something he considers nice to look or grab, he will be more open minded to understand it, will accept more errors, and will thus use it with more ease.
