Endonuclease - Definition and Overview

Endonucleases are enzymes that cleave the phosphodiester bond within a nucleotide chain. Restriction endonucleases cleave DNA at specific sites, and are divided into three categories, Type I, Type II, and Type III, according to their mechanism of action.
