Enix - Definition and Overview

Enix was a company that produced Japanese video games and mangas. The company was founded in August, 1982 as a subsidiary of Eidansha Boshu Service Center. It has since merged with Square Co., Ltd. on April 1, 2003 to form the modern day company Square Enix.

Enix was most famous for the Dragon Quest series of games (known as Dragon Warrior in North America). Other popular series from Enix were the Soul Blazer series, consisting of Soul Blazer, Illusion of Gaia, and Terranigma, and the Star Ocean series, developed by tri-Ace. They also produced mangas, most notably the Fullmetal Alchemist series.

Enix is also municipality (pop. 281) in the Spanish province of Almería, in the autonomous community of Andalusia.
