Entombed Entombed

Entombed - Definition and Overview

Entombed is also a video game by Rare, see Entombed (video game).

Entombed is a Swedish heavy metal band which formed in 1987 (see 1987 in music) under the name of Nihilist. Though Entombed began their career as an early pioneer of Scandinavian death metal, they switched in the early 1990s to include hardcore punk and other influences.

Entombed's debut album was Left Hand Path, a cult favourite that established the band as one of the most popular death metal bands. The follow-up, Clandestine, was just as popular and also featured greatly improved songwriting which helped woo critics. After the Gods of Grind tour, Entombed began changing their sound, which turned off many fans but established their mainstream and critical reputation. Wolverine Blues and Hollowman are widely considered classics of early 1990s heavy metal, but were followed by personal problems. In 1999 (see 1999 in music), Entombed released Uprising, which was an anti-commercial return to the band's roots. The follow-up, though, their latest, Morning Star returned to Hollowman and Wolverine Blues style metal.
