Eryx Eryx

Eryx - Definition and Overview

In Greek mythology, Eryx was the son of Aphrodite and King Butes of the Elymian people on Sicily.

Eryx was an excellent boxer but died when Heracles beat him in a match. Virgil V, 392, 412

An alternate version claims that Perseus turned him to stone with the head of Medusa.

Eryx was also the ancient name of the Italian city of Erice.

ERYX is also a short-range portable anti-tank weapon used by the French and Norwegian armies. [1] (http://www.defense.gouv.fr/sites/terre/decouverte/materiels/arme_et_materiel_/armement_individuel_et_collectif/eryx/)
