Espada y daga - Definition and Overview

Espada y Daga is spanish for Sword and Dagger and is a very popular Eskrima style said to be influenced by Spanish Fencing. It involves the use of a sword and a dagger, and whose tactical purpose is to employ both weapons at the same time against multiple or single opponents, and simultaneously engage them in both close and mid-range (see main article on Eskrima). It also allows the combatant to use the sword for defense and the dagger for attack\killing blows and vice versa. The concept of using the sword and dagger in Eskrima varies within the schools and also within the players\combatants themselves. Before a practitioner can begin training in Espada Y Daga, he or she must master the Doble Baston (double stick), but not always so, and subject within the teachers discretion.

The Cabales Serrada Eskrima and Doce Pares Esrkima schools are some of the schools that has Esdpada Y Daga included in their system. Other styles has them in their curriculum, but their usage of the practice varies. It is said that Cabales Serrada Eskrima is purely an espada y daga style.
