Etymotic Research, based in Illinois, USA, was founded in 1983 by Mead Killion. Etymotic is a research, development and manufacturing company that designs and manafactures products to measure, improve, and protect hearing. The name "Etymotic" (pronounced "et-im-OH-tik") means "true to the ear". Although most of their products are aimed at professionals, they do have a highly successful line of in-ear "canalphones" for consumers. The most well-known of which being their low-end ER-6 Isolator earphones. Etymotic also has lines of headphones, hearing aids, and microphones.
