 Evil-merodach - Definition

Amel-Marduk (or Evil-merodach, "Merodach's man") (? BC - ca. 560 BC), the son and successor of Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon. He seems to have reigned only two years (562 - 560 BC). Most likely influenced by Daniel, he pardoned and released Jeconiah, king of Judah, who had been a prisoner in Babylon for thirty-seven years. Allegedly because Amel-Marduk tried to modify his father's policies, he was murdered by Nergal-sharezer (Neriglissar), his brother-in-law, who succeeded him.
