Expedia - Definition

Expedia, Inc. is an Internet travel agency. Based in Bellevue, Washington, USA, it is a subsidiary of IAC/InterActiveCorp. It books airline tickets, hotel reservations, car rentals, cruises, vacation packages, and various attractions and services via the World Wide Web and telephone travel agents.

Founded as a division of Microsoft in 1994, Expedia was spun off in 1999, and was purchased by USA Networks in 2001. (USA changed its name to IAC/InterActiveCorp in 2003.)

Expedia has online points of sale servicing customers in The United States, Canada, The United Kingdom, France, Germany, and Italy. Its primary competitors are Travelocity and Orbitz.
