Faial Island is an island of the Azores, its area is 169.94 km², and the population is 15,063. The island has one city, the city of Horta. Its nearest island is Pico Island to the east. The highest mountain (Caldera) is Cabeço Gordo with 1,043 m.

The island is of volcanic origin. The island is circular by 20km x 25 km. The last eruption was at Vulcão dos Capelinhos on September 27, 1957.
The island was discovered in the first half of the 15th century. The povoamento was given in 1460. Its fast economic growth it was lead by production of a blue-colored pastel plant that was used for dyers.
The island is also known as Ilha Azul, the Blue Island, due to a large quantities of Hydrangeas that bloom during summer months.
The island also has the city of Horta with a port and a marina.
The island also has windmill that keep the beauty of its landscape.
Its main agricultural source for the island are potatoes, cereals, fruits, and wines along with bovine cattle that makes up the dairy and meat industry.
