It runs south through a number of small, rural Connecticut towns, where the river plays at least some factor in town activities and certain geograhpical elements, and then runs north and east until it meets the Connecticut River.

The Collins Company, founded in ___ in Canton, Connecticut, made machettes, axes, and other tools. They used waterwheels on a natural dam in the river to power its twelve foot tall grindstones. The railway that carried supplies has been turned into a recreational trail along the river through a number of towns, known to locals as the "Rails to Trails" project.
