Fats Navarro - Definition and Overview

Theodore (Fats) Navarro (24 September, 1923 - 6 July, 1950) was an American jazz trumpeter. He played in the bebop genre and is regarded by many as a seminal modern jazz trumpeter, especially for his strong influence on Clifford Brown.

Navarro was born in Key West, Florida.

Fats Navarro played in the Andy Kirk, Billy Eckstine, Benny Goodman, and Lionel Hampton orchestras, and recorded with Kenny Clarke, Tadd Dameron, Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis, Illinois Jacquet, Howard McGhee, and Bud Powell.

Fats Navarro died in New York City of tuberculosis, the end hastened by his heroin addiction.
