The Filbert (Corylus maxima) is a species of hazel native to southeast Europe and southwest Asia. It differs from the Common Hazel (C. avellana) in having the nut more fully enclosed by a tube-like involucre; this feature is shared by the North American Beaked Hazel (C. cornuta) and the Asian Beaked Hazel (C. sieboldiana).
