FinalRender - Definition and Overview

finalRender (note capitalization), fR for short, is a rendering engine plug-in by Cebas Computer GmbH for discreet's 3D Studio Max. There are currently two versions: "Stage-0" and "Stage-1." Essentially, Stage-0 supplements 3D Studio Max's built-in scanline renderer with its own raytracing engine, whereas Stage-1 is a "pure" raytracing system which does not use 3D Studio Max's scanline renderer as a front-end. finalRender is able to render many advanced rendering techniques such as global illumination (GI), caustics, high dynamic range imaging (HDRI), motion blur etc. Unlike other competiting renderers, finalRender is the only plug-in renderer for 3D Studio Max that has a DCP status, which is stands for "Discreet Certified Plug-ins".
