Fireball 999 is a 3D rendering community based on the grid hypothesis. The core of their operation is a multi processor grid used as a renderfarm. The software is similar to seti-at-home and allows home users to render a few frames of a computer animation each. The "mothership" handles the collation and file storage for the returned data files. This is an internet server with 10 GigaBytes of ram and 3.9*10^16 Bytes of hard disk storage (39 PetaBytes). The ram is only used to smooth the data flow to disk. Fireball 999's first render was an epic production for Rhodium Design. This had a rendering power of 1 TeraRenderMark and the 90 minute animation took 1 hour to render. |
