Story

Firestarter is about Charlie McGee, a young girl who has pyrokinesis — the ability to create fire with the mind alone. Charlie, along with her father Andy, is running from The Shop, a government controlled organization that experiments on people with psychokinetic abilities. The Shop has sent John Rainbird, a Native American assassin, to hunt them down and capture them. Rainbird eventually captures both of them, and they are taken to a complex where Charlie must find a way to escape with her father while learning to better control her powers in order to use them to escape.

Adaptations

Firestarter was adapted into a movie in 1984, directed by Mark L. Lester and starring Drew Barrymore as Charlie, David Keith as Andy, and George C. Scott as Rainbird. It also starred Heather Locklear and Martin Sheen.

A TV movie sequel, Firestarter 2: Rekindled was made in 2002. It starred Marguerite Moreau as a grown-up Charlie and Malcolm McDowell as Rainbird.
