First Star Software - Definition

First Star Software, Inc. is a computer game development, publishing and licensing company, founded in 1982. It is best known for its classic titles Boulder Dash and Spy vs. Spy, originally written for 8-bit home computers like the Apple II, Atari 400/800, and Commodore 64.

The company's games were also licensed to be ported to several video game consoles, such as the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) and the SEGA Master System. From 2002 on, First Star Software publishes its games for portable devices, like PDAs, handheld game consoles, and mobile phones. Like many other early-to-mid-1980s titles, the company's games are well-suited for the current hardware capabilities of such devices, both in terms of processor speed / power consumption, and display specifications (physical size, color palette, resolution, and frame rate).
