- A flag is a piece of cloth that can be colored.
- Colloquially, a flag can generally mean an indicator, as in a "red flag" (a sign that something is amiss -see its use in auto racing).
- A flag stone is a large flat stone, usually used for paving but also for fencing or roofing.
- In chess, game clocks are equipped with a "flag" which falls at the precise moment one player's time has expired.
- In the game Dance Dance Revolution, a black flag is a score of all "perfect" except for one "great", just missing out on the coveted AAA grade.
- In computer programming, a flag is a variable used to indicate a true or false (Boolean) value. More specifically, in computer engineering a flag is a bit in a special CPU register, which is used to indicate the existence of a condition such as arithmetic overflow.
- A flag in musical notation marks an eighth note.
