Flemish region - Definition and Overview |
|
- This article or section should be merged with Flemish Region
The Flemish Region is one of the three regional authorities in Belgium. The official language of the Flemish region is Dutch. Because the Flemings immediately merged their regional institutions, with their community institutions, there is no distinctive actual parliament, no any executive specific for the region.
Often, one calls this regional governement level just 'Flanders', although that name has a few, closely related meanings. In its most general meaning, the refers to the nation of the Flemings and all their cultural, scientific, social and political institutions (such as parties and single parliament.)
For more detailled information, see the general article on Flanders.
Provinces of the Flemish region (name in Dutch)
- Province of Antwerp (Antwerpen)
- Belgian Limburg (Limburg)
- Eastern Flanders (Oost-Vlaanderen)
- Flemish Brabant (Vlaams-Brabant)
- Western Flanders (West-Vlaanderen)
