Folsom Street Fair - Definition and Overview

The annual Folsom Street Fair takes place at the end of September and is now the final event in San Francisco's Leather Pride Week. The Folsom Street Fair is sometimes simply referred to as Folsom, and is located in San Francisco's South of Market district, on Folsom Street between 7th and 12th Streets. It was started in 1984 and is the world's largest leather event.

The Folsom Street Fair annually draws four hundred thousand visitors including kinky leather fans from around the world. Each year all proceeds from the Folsom Street Fair, including gate donations and beverage sales, are given to qualified local charities. These include AIDS charities and The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence. The event generates an estimated $250,000 for charity.

In 2003, the Folsom Street Fair licensed the name Folsom Fair North for a similar fair in Toronto, Ontario's Church and Wellesley neighbourhood.
