Ford has used the Maverick name on four completely different automobiles in the last three decades. A Maverick car was produced for the Americas in the 1970s, and the name has appeared on three different SUVs in Australia and Europe.

1970s

The 1970s Ford Maverick is a front engine, rear-wheel drive compact car that was built from 1969 to 1977 in the USA, Canada, Mexico, and later in Brazil. The original model was a 2-door sedan priced at $1995.

Over the years other models appeared, like the 4-door and Grabber (1971), the Sprint (1972), the LDO (Luxury Decor Option) in 1972 and the Stallion (1976). Ford of Brazil launched another model of Maverick at the 1973 São Paulo Auto Show as a 1974 model.

Australia

The Ford Maverick name was later used on an off-roader in Australia based on the Nissan Patrol GR and sold between 1988 and 1998.

1990s

A completely different SUV was sold under the same name in Europe, based on the Nissan Terrano II and built in Spain from 1993 to 2001.

2000s

From 2001, the Mazda Tribute-based Ford Escape has been sold in Europe under the Maverick name.
