A foreword is a literary device that is often found in the beginning of a piece of literature, before the introduction. It generally covers the story of how the book came into being, or how the idea for the book was developed. Alternatively, often it is written by someone other then the author of the book and will tell of some interaction between the writer of the foreword and the story or the writer of the story.
