Fort Belan - Definition and Overview

Fort Belan is a Grade I Listed building at the south western end of the Menai Strait opposite Abermenai point. This coastal fortification in the parish of Llanwrda, Gwynedd was built in 1775 by Thomas Wynn, then MP for Caernarvonshire and later to become Lord Newborough. He was worried about the vulnerability of Britain’s coastline to attack, particularly because of the on-going American War of Independence.
