Fort Knox, Maine - Definition and Overview

Fort Knox in Maine was built from 1844-1869. It is located on the Penobscot River in Prospect, Maine.

It was constructed during a period of tension between Great Britain and the United States over certain Canadian issues. Its last period of potential utility was during the Spanish-American War.
