Fortune Magazine - Definition and Overview

The magazine Fortune was founded by Time Magazine co-founder Henry Luce in 1930 at the outset of the Great Depression. It was considered America's first business journal.

Fortune is now part of the media conglomerate Time Warner.

Fortune publishes three influential lists of companies:

• Fortune 500
• Fortune 1000
• Global 500 - ranking of the top 500 companies globally, along with information about them.

as well as an annual list of the wealthiest individuals and families in the world.
