Freddie and the Dreamers were a British musical band who had a number of hit records in 1963/1964. Their act was based around the comic antics of 5 foot 3 inches tall Freddie Garrity who would bounce around the stage with arms and legs flying. Their greatest successes were If You Gotta Make A Fool Of Somebody which reached Number 3 in the UK charts in 1963 , I'm Telling You Now, which went to number 2 and You Were Made For Me, that reached number 3. in 1964. Athough the band were a part of the Merseybeat sound phenomenon that carried the Beatles to fame around the world, they came from Manchester. As their popularity declined in the UK they enjoyed a brief spell of fame in America at a time when it was hungry for any British pop music. I'm Telling You Now reached the top 10 of the U.S. charts in 1964. The band consisted of Freddie Garrity (vocals), Roy Crewsdon, Derek Quinn, (both guitar), Pete Birrell (bass) and Bernie Dwyer (drummer). External link
