Fredonia, Wisconsin - Definition and Overview

Fredonia is a village located in Ozaukee County, Wisconsin. It is the home of the "National Flag Day Foundation" and identifies itself as the birthplace of Flag Day. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 1934. The village is located mostly within the Town of Fredonia. A small portion lies within an adjacent town.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 3.7 km² (1.4 mi²). None of the area is covered with water.

Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 1,934 people, 701 households, and 536 families residing in the village. The population density is 522.2/km² (1,351.1/mi²). There are 734 housing units at an average density of 198.2/km² (512.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 97.36% White, 0.52% Black or African American, 0.52% Asian, 0.47% Native American, 0% Pacific Islander, 0.36% from other races, and 0.78% from two or more races. 1.40% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 701 households out of which 42.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 62.6% are married couples living together, 9.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 23.5% are non-families. 17.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 5.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.76 and the average family size is 3.17.

In the village the population is spread out with 29.6% under the age of 18, 8.4% from 18 to 24, 33.7% from 25 to 44, 20.7% from 45 to 64, and 7.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 33 years. For every 100 females there are 97.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 97.0 males.

The median income for a household in the village is $53,173, and the median income for a family is $60,326. Males have a median income of $39,464 versus $26,292 for females. The per capita income for the village is $20,644. 2.2% of the population and 2.2% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 2.5% of those under the age of 18 and 0.0% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
