Fulbert of Chartres (born between 952 and 962; died 10 April, 1028), scholar, teacher, and bishop of Chartres (1007-1028). Fulbert was educated in part at Reims where he had as a professor the famous Gerbert of Aurillac, later Pope Silvester II.
In about 990 Fulbert founded a school at Chartres which became the most famous educational institution of the 11th century in western Europe. Among his personal students was Berengar of Tours.
Fulbert became bishop of Chartres in 1007. In 1020 the cathedral burned and Fulbert rebuilt it. The foundations of his church were retained as the foundations of the later Gothic cathedral.
