GP2 - Definition and Overview

GP2 is a form of motor racing introduced in 2005. It is the replacement series for Formula 3000, seen as the step below Formula One in Europe.

In an attempt to make driver skill the most important aspect of the series, each driver must drive the same car. The chassis is to be made by Dallara, the engine is to be a V8 made by Renault and the tyres will be supplied by Bridgestone.

Twelve teams are thought to be entering GP2 in the 2005 season:

  • ART Grand Prix
  • BCN Competicion
  • Campos Racing
  • Coloni Motorsport
  • DAMS
  • David Price Racing
  • Durango
  • HiTech Piquet
  • iSport International
  • Racing Engineering
  • Super Nova
