G (New York City Subway) - Definition and Overview

The G train (Brooklyn-Queens Crosstown Local) is an unusual line in that it is the only line to never enter Manhattan. The G train's northern run through Queens, from Queens Plaza on east, is off-hours (9pm-5:30am) and weekends only because these tracks are served by the R train (all days, 5:30am-11pm) and V train (6am-midnight weekdays) when the G is on limited service. The G train's southern run from Queens to downtown Brooklyn is marred by a lack of connecting service, which is an artefact of the New York Subway's history as 3 competing services.
