Gaius Lutatius Catulus - Definition

Gaius Lutatius Catulus was a Roman leader in the First Punic War. He was elected as a consul in 241 BC, a novus homo. He led a Roman fleet into victory over Carthage in the battle of the Aegates Islands. This was the decisive battle of the conflict.

Gaius Lutatius Catulus is also the main character of Jukka Heikkilä's book "Merikonsuli".
