Gallipoli (movie) - Definition

The film Gallipoli (1981) is an account of several young men from rural Western Australia who enlist in the Australian armed forces during World War I. They are sent to Turkey, where they take part in the Battle of Gallipoli. During the course of the movie, the young men slowly lose their innocence about the nature of war.

The film was directed by Peter Weir with a screenplay by David Williamson. It stars Mel Gibson.

The climax of the movie occurs on the Anzac battlefield at Gallipoli and depicts the ill-fated attack at the Nek on the morning of the August 7, 1915 by the 8th (Victorian) and 10th (Western Australian) Light horse Regiments of the 3rd Light Horse Brigade.
