Gareth Keenan is a fictional character on the BBC comedy The Office who is best described as a boy in a man's body. He is played by Mackenzie Crook.
In the main two series, Gareth is a Team Leader. Even though it is explained to him that this is a meaningless job title that simply means more responsibility without any extra pay, he thinks that this makes him extremely important. His attempts to throw his authority around rarely work, especially with Tim Canterbury, who loves to play endless pranks on Gareth, for instance by hiding his computer or putting his stapler in jelly (which Gareth has a phobia of: "I don't trust the way it wobbles"). He sometimes likes to give his job title as "Assistant Regional Manager", but David Brent corrects him and points out he is "Assistant to the Regional Manager".
Keenan is a member of the Territorial Army, which he is very proud of, and wherever possible he likes to point out how his military skills might come in useful in an office environment, such as how to kill a man with a single blow.
By the Christmas Specials, with Brent gone, Gareth is promoted to Office Manager, although he still seems to command little respect, especially as Tim's latest prank is to lock Gareth in his office and hide the keys.
