Geauga County is a county located in the state of Ohio. As of 2000, the population is 90,895. Its county seat is Chardon6.

Geography

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,057 km² (408 mi²). 1,045 km² (404 mi²) of it is land and 12 km² (5 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.13% water.

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 90,895 people, 31,630 households, and 24,987 families residing in the county. The population density is 87/km² (225/mi²). There are 32,805 housing units at an average density of 31/km² (81/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 97.42% White, 1.22% Black or African American, 0.08% Native American, 0.42% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.14% from other races, and 0.71% from two or more races. 0.59% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 31,630 households out of which 37.10% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 68.90% are married couples living together, 7.20% have a female householder with no husband present, and 21.00% are non-families. 17.60% of all households are made up of individuals and 6.90% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.84 and the average family size is 3.24.

In the county the population is spread out with 28.40% under the age of 18, 6.40% from 18 to 24, 26.60% from 25 to 44, 26.70% from 45 to 64, and 12.00% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 39 years. For every 100 females there are 96.80 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 94.30 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $60,200, and the median income for a family is $67,427. Males have a median income of $48,443 versus $30,567 for females. The per capita income for the county is $27,944. 4.60% of the population and 2.80% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 6.10% of those under the age of 18 and 5.10% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
