General Post Office - Definition and Overview

The term General Post Office is used by a number of postal administrations worldwide. Notably, it was the former name of the British postal administration, which at one time combined the functions of state postal and telecommunications carrier.

In India, the term for the head post office in any major city.

In Australia, the main post office in each state is a GPO.
