George Hammond - Definition and Overview

The following article refers to the sci-fi television show, Stargate SG-1.

Major General (later Lieutenant General) George Hammond, played by Don S. Davis, was the military commander of the USAF's Stargate Command. An Air Force officer since the mid '60s, shutting down the Stargate program was to have been his last assignment.

Master Bra'tac has been known to call him "Hammond of Texas", he being a native of that state. He is a widower; his wife died of cancer. He has two grandchildren, whose phone number is keyed to the '1' button on his office phone.

The character was written out of the series by being promoted to Lieutenant General and replacing General West who commanded the Stargate Project in the original movie Stargate, although he made a guest appearance on an episode in Season 8.
