George Lohmann - Definition and Overview

George Lohmann is regarded as one the greatest cricket bowlers of all time. Statistically, he holds the lowest lifetime test bowling average.

Lohmann played first-class for Surrey starting in 1884 and bowled his first test match for England in 1886. Contracting tuberculosis in 1892, his degenerating health caused him to retire from bowling and his English career in 1896. He immigrated to South Africa in 1897 where he played two seasons of first-class for Western Province.

He died in 1901 at age 36.
