Gerritsen Beach, Brooklyn - Definition

Gerritsen Beach is a Brooklyn neighborhood, located next to Floyd Bennett Field and Manhattan Beach, on Rockaway Inlet.

The neighborhood began as a summer resort in the 1920s; it was named after Wolfert Gerrritsen, a Walloon who built a house and mill on Gerritsen Creek in the first half of the 17th century.

The 1949 film City Across the River (with Tony Curtis) and the 1996 film She's the One (by Edward Burns) were filmed partly in Gerritsen Beach.
