Gerry MacNamara is a starting guard on the current Syracuse University men's Basketball team. Now a junior, MacNamara, along with teammate Carmelo Anthony, lead his Orange (formerly "Orangemen") to their first ever National Championship in 2003. In the title game versus the Kansas Jayhawks, MacNamara hit an amazing 6 three pointers in the first half, giving his team a hefty 18 point cushion during the first half. In the second half, Syracuse managed to cling to this lead, eventually winning the game by a mere three points.
MacNamara is known for his excellent shooting--especially from behing the 3-point arc--and his fiery toughness. Usually hounded by the opposing team's defense, MacNamara often struggles to get open, and he has been known to occasionally take an ill-advised shot as a result. These shots, however, sometimes go in! MacNamara has incredible heart and dedication; he's the sort of player a team can always count on--the sort of player you always want to have the ball in the final seconds of a close game.
MacNamara is originally from Scranton PA, where he attended Bishop Hannan high school and was the Lackawanaa League Division II Player of the Year for four years in a row.
