 Gilbert O'Sullivan - Definition

Gilbert O'Sullivan (born Raymond Edward O'Sullivan, December 1, 1946, Waterford, Ireland) is a singer-songwriter, not to be confused with the late Victorian duo Gilbert and Sullivan who wrote comic operas.

In 1967 Sullivan's musical career began. He signed a five year publishing contract with CBS which called for one single a year, and released two singles Disappear/You in 1967 and What Can I Do/You in 1968. Gilbert signed with the Major Minor label in 1968 and released I Wish I Could Cry/Mr. Moody's Garden in 1969. Nothing Rhymed was his first Top 10 hit and introduced his witty lyrics and original approach as a singer/songwriter. In the next four years he had a dozen more hit singles, ten of which reached the UK Top 10, and four Top 5 albums: Himself (1971), Back To Front (1972), I'm A Writer Not A Fighter (1973) and A Stranger In My Own Back Yard (1974).The ballad ,Alone Again,Naturally(1972),was his only US Number One Hit. His final Top 20 hit was with 1975's I Don't Love You But I Think I Like You. He released a Greatest Hits album in 1976. He presently lives in Jersey (the Channel Islands) with his wife and two children.
