Global National is the national newscast of Global Television Network in Canada. It broadcasts daily from Global's Vancouver station CHAN on weekdays, covering Canada's national and international headlines.
The program's weekday anchor is Kevin Newman.
The program aired for the first time on September 4, 2001. Prior to the launch of Global National, Global aired Canada Tonight (which it had inherited from the WIC group of stations) for a few months; that program, in turn, had replaced regional newscasts such as First National.
The show aired only on weekdays until February, 2005, when it was announced that Saturday and Sunday editions will air as of February 26 with Tara Nelson as weekend anchor.
