A conjunction is a part of speech that connects two words, phrases, or clauses together.
Coordinating conjunctions
If the two are of equal importance, it is a coordinating conjunction.
The first seven produce the mnemonic FANBOYS.
Correlative conjunctions
A pair of words that connect two similar parts are correlative conjunctions.
- both ... and
- either ... or
- neither ... nor
- not only ... but
- whether ... or
Subordinate conjunctions
If one phrase is subordinate to another, it is a subordinate conjunction.
