Greenford tube station - Definition and Overview

Greenford is a London Underground station. On the Central Line, it lies between Perivale and Northolt, in Zone 4.

Greenford station has an island platform layout, with access up from the booking hall to the platforms. It is unique on the London Underground since it is the only station that has an escalator up to the platform level (rather than down, like all underground tube stations).

A third centre bay platform between the Central Line platforms hosts the Thames Trains shuttle service between Greenford and Ealing Broadway. The Ealing Broadway line also carries freight services from the main lines out of Paddington, and occasional passenger services on diversion; both these can be observed from the Tube platforms. In addition, also visible is one of the few remaining semaphore signal installations in London; this is part of the unmodernised signalling on the adjacent line eastbound from Northolt Junction towards Paddington.
