Gringotts Gringotts

Gringotts - Definition and Overview

Gringotts is a bank in J. K. Rowling's Harry Potter fictional series of novels. It operates from a great white building in Diagon Alley, and appears to be the definitive bank of Great Britain's Wizarding World. Its international standing has not been shown, though it is known to have curse-breakers in Egypt on payroll.

Gringotts runs various services, from changing Muggle money to storing the wealth and precious possessions of its customers. The latter is done in fortified vaults deep underground, with high (and potentially lethal) security measures, giving rise to a reputation of high reliability and rumours that it utilizes dragons as guardians.

The bank is staffed by goblins, although it does employ humans for jobs that require a wand.
