HK MSG90 (Sniper Rifle): 'MSG90' stands for "Militärisches Scharfschützen Gewehr" ("Military Marksman Rifle"), and the "90" is the year of initial production.
Design
Related to the PSG1, both descendants of the G3, the MSG90 was designed as a low cost alternative to the PSG1 and strengthened and lightened to bring it up to military standards.
Close relatives, the MSG90 and PSG1 share the same trigger group(3lb adjustable trigger pull). The composite shoulder stock of the MSG90 is adjustable for height(cheek), pull(shoulder) and smaller and lighter than the PSG1's.
The sighting system utilizes the multipurpose 'weaver' rail system (STANAG compatible) rather than the claw mount for affixing gunsight systems which can be purchased separately. This same rail mounting system is used on the HK21E, 23E and G41 (discontinued) series.
The barrel is weighted at the muzzle to aid harmonic stabilization of barrel whip to enhance accuracy. The addition of a flash suppressor adds to the overall barrel length.
Other features: Integrated bipod(adjustable height).
