Haikou (海口; pinyin: Hǎikǒu), situated at the north of Hainan island, is the capital of the economically booming Hainan Province of the People's Republic of China.

Geography

Location: located between 1957' - 2005' north latitude and 11010' - 11023' east longitude in the southernmost part of China; in an area that reaches from Zengmu Ansha in the south to the Qiougzhou Straits in the north; bordering the sea areas of the South China Sea and facing Vietnam in the west across Beibu Bay.

Economy

The GDP per capita was ¥23920 (ca. US$2890) in 2003, ranked no. 43 among 659 Chinese cities.
