Hampton is an unincorporated census-designated place located in Adams County, Pennsylvania. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 633.

Geography

Hampton is located at 39°55'42" North, 77°3'25" West (39.928268, -77.057051)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the community has a total area of 1.6 km² (0.6 mi²). 1.6 km² (0.6 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.

Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 633 people, 222 households, and 172 families residing in the community. The population density is 387.9/km² (1,010.2/mi²). There are 238 housing units at an average density of 145.9/km² (379.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the community is 97.79% White, 0.16% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.32% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.79% from other races, and 0.95% from two or more races. 2.05% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 222 households out of which 45.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.8% are married couples living together, 13.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 22.5% are non-families. 18.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 5.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.82 and the average family size is 3.18.

The population is spread out with 31.1% under the age of 18, 8.8% from 18 to 24, 37.1% from 25 to 44, 16.4% from 45 to 64, and 6.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 31 years. For every 100 females there are 90.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 92.1 males.

The median income for a household in the community is $39,861, and the median income for a family is $40,156. Males have a median income of $38,750 versus $24,375 for females. The per capita income for the community is $14,901. 17.6% of the population and 13.3% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 33.7% of those under the age of 18 and 0.0% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
